It's over the River Seyhan. It was constructed by the Roman Emperor Hadrianus in the 4th century (385). It was an important bridge between Europa and Asia for centuries. Harun Resit (766-809) joined it to Adana Castle with some addings. At the beginning of the 9th century, Memun, who was Harun Resit's son and the 7th Abbasian caliph had it repaired. It was repaired by 3th Ahmet (1713), Kel Hasan Pasha (1847), Ziya Pasha, the Governor of Adana Province (1789) at different times. The epigraphs of these three repairings are present today. The last repairing was constructed in 1949. |
It is 319 metres long and 13 metres high. The 14 out of the 21 bridges are still standing. Two lion relieves can be seen on the big bridge in the middle. It's known that it's the oldest bridge of the world which is still in use. (Source: Governorship of Adana, Introducing Adana Brochure) |

It's one of the Crusader castles which was built in 11th century in the Middle Ages and it is on the historical road which was important in the Ottoman period as much as in the the Antic period and goes to Antakya passing over the Taurus Mountains. |
The castle which takes the other castles in its angle of vision has eight round circled towers. It has the Entrance Gate in the south. The stairs with the stone steps starting from the entrance lead to the terraces. Having a church and a cistern, garrison of the castle is on the top part. The castle whose previous name was "Govara" was introduced as Sahmeran castle by Evliya Celebi who travelled near here in 1671. He mentioned in a humorous way that snakes whose napes were haired and horn-headed ones used to live there. |
The Snake Castle is an important castle 30 Km far from Adana in Cukurova which has about 40 castles. (Source: Governorship of Adana, Introducing Adana Brochure) |
